Can I miss someone I never met?
Can I mourn for something that hasn’t passed?
Can I grieve for something that I never had?
Can I remember something I never knew?
‘When Can I Miss You?’ explores ideas of cultural erasure and disenfranchised grief through the personal lens of interactions with culture and family history.
While serving as a celebration of my grandmothers influence and heritage, it also addresses broader notions of grief and mourning for a loss of culture, history and identity.
